When the petcock points straight down, it's ON. When it points towards the front of the bike, it's on RESERVE. When it points to the back of the bike, it's on PRIME.
PRIME is used to refill the carb after you've run out of gas, or after you've emptied the fuel system for any reason: fuel flows even though the engine is not running.
There is no OFF, but if the bike's off, you should leave the petcock set to ON or RESERVE - never PRIME.
